What many people consider to be a holiday tradition at Walt Disney World is coming to an end.
This year marks the last for the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights. With the changes coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, this will be the last year to enjoy the lights.
The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights started in 1986 on a residential street in Little Rock, Arkansas. By the time 1993 had rolled around, there were over three million lights in the display.
After some legal battles and the future of the display in jeopardy, Disney stepped forward and agreed to host the display at MGM Studios.
In 2006, Disney added electronic controllers that enabled the lights to dim on and off and sync to music. This is one of the largest changes and added the ‘dancing’ element to the show.
The last major overhaul was in 2011 when the lights were switched to LED based Christmas lights.
The release of this information pretty much confirms that the Streets of America portion of Hollywood Studios will be replaced with something most likely Star Wars related.
