In what seems to be a joint venture, the 3 big theme park players in Orlando have decided to increase security measures overnight.
At Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom several dogs and security officers were visible. Along with increased security, they have installed three metal detectors. It doesn’t seem as if all guests are being direct through the machines, but rather a random selection of guests are sent to the machines after going through the standard security check. Right now the machines don’t appear to be a permanent fixture at any of the parks.
The machines at Disney are currently staffed by CSC Event Staff. CSC is the same security outfit that has been at Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios over the past few years.
Disney has also decided to ban costumes and toy guns from their parks. This includes bubble guns, Star wars blasters, Buzz Lightyear guns, and any other toy that is gun shaped.
This also means that Disney has removed these merchandise items from their parks.
At Universal Orlando security has been moved closer to parking. The metal detectors are used in addition to stepped up security presence in CityWalk and in front of the two parks.
During the first day of the new operations, Universal’s deployment has added considerable crowds to the security checkpoint.
