It’s been over two years since we’ve had first hand experience with MyMagic+. Disney has started rolling out one of the first features they introduced with MyMagic+.

Story Maker is a feature of MagicBands that personalizes an experience for guests. The original idea was for Mickey Mouse to already know your name before you even shake his hand.

One of the first ideas brought forward was “it’s a small world” saying a custom goodbye. This is exactly what Disney has revealed. Near the end of the ride there are now screens that have the names of the people in the boat.

This small detail is a part of MyMagic+ that has been missing since the beginning. It’s also a great way for Disney to test the technology before rolling it out to more places. The slow-moving boat makes it easier for the scanner to pick up all the MagicBands on board.

In the future it’s hard to say what sorts of information Disney can use to customize the experience in the park. Mickey could talk about your favorite character, or ask about the turkey leg you just bought. It just depends how far they want to go with this technology.
